| Jacobs Publishing Company was formed in 1976 and incorporated in the state of Arizona. Russell F. Jacobs, who is CEO and President, founded the company with the goal of publishing supplementary materials for mathematics education in middle schools, junior high schools, and high schools. His wife, Helen, is Vice President and Secretary, and Russell is also Treasurer of the company. |
| Russell Jacobs has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Illinois and has done graduate work at the University of Colorado, the University of Notre Dame, and Arizona State University. He taught high school mathematics at Martinsville High School, Martinsville, Illinois, at the Missouri Military Academy, Mexico, Missouri, and at Camelback High School, Phoenix, Arizona. He served as mathematics supervisor of the Phoenix Union High School District from 1966 to 1972. |
| Russell Jacobs was motivated to form his own company as a result of his years of experience as a textbook author for Harcourt Brace Publishing Company. During the period from 1968 to 1993 he authored or co-authored 10 books. However, his first books Introductory Algebra 1 & 2, eventually were published in six editions. |
